Nov 2, 2012 · Typical pillow blocks simply aren't precision grade bearings. You could probably make a fine wood lathe that way, but I'd still want the thrust bearing. Another issue would be the spindle itself and how it fits the ID of the bearing.

May 17, 2003 · I've been looking at commercial pillow blocks, and rail mounts, and determined that they are way to expensive for what they are. I am thinking that with access to a mill, it should be pretty easy to make my own.

5 days ago · Kasco built a mill with 1-1/2" shafts but they had lots of bearing failures. They increased the shaft size to 2" and which solved the problem. Larry, making useful and beautiful things out of the most environmental friendly material on the planet. We need to insure our customers understand the importance of our craft.

Mar 16, 2018 · I'm trying to build a simple grinding station so I can preform and do touch up on material intended for tumbling. My goal is to use a 5/8" shaft supported by pillow block bearings but I have read that standard pillow block bearings are only rated to about 650 rpms... not the 1700+ I'll be running.

Oct 12, 2006 · Homemade 10 inch Newt then the counter weights, I have some good oak to work with and a cromed steel heavy wall pipe to lay accross the top of the pier which will have a large bearing supporting the pillow blocks...putting together a mockup first to make sure it will be bug free..so far it's looking good, the epoxy/brass will kick it up a notch ...
