Elinor Costayne was a noblewoman from House Costayne and one of the many brides of King Maegor I Targaryen. Along with Lady Jeyne Westerling and Princess Rhaena Targaryen, she was one of the so-called "Black Brides".[3]

It was Queen Elinor who found Maegor dead on the Iron Throne. Though many still believe the Throne itself killed him, some suspected she had done the deed instead, as vengeance for her first husband.

Lady Elinor Costayne, the wife of Ser Theo Bolling, was forced to marry King Maegor I Targaryen seven days after Theo's execution in 47 AC. Lord Owen Costayne of Three Towers declared for Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons, going against his Hightower overlords in 129 AC.

"Black Brides" is a term used to refer to the last three wives of King Maegor Targaryen: Elinor Costayne, Jeyne Westerling, and Maegor's half-niece Rhaena Targaryen. They were so-named because they were all widows of men killed by Maegor.

Elinor Costayne was one of King Maegor the Cruel's Black Brides and one of the two wives who survived him. Death of the Hypotenuse : Her first husband was tried and executed for conspiracy to dethrone Maegor.
