Republicans in the House released a stopgap spending plan over the weekend that would delay a government shutdown for at least six months, but it's unclear if they have the votes to pass the measure.

The proposal would fund the government through September, and mostly maintain levels of spending passed during the last administration.

Republicans are pitching the strategy as a way of avoiding a politically damaging shutdown fight while giving President Trump more power to go around Congress and set funding levels himself.
