The Nikon F5 is a professional 35 mm film -based single-lens reflex camera body manufactured by Nikon from 1996 through 2004. It was the fifth in Nikon 's professional film camera line, which began in 1959 with the Nikon F. It followed the Nikon F4 of 1988, which introduced in-body autofocus to Nikon's professional line.

Nikon's fastest and toughest 35mm SLR ever, with an infallible 1,005-segment color 3D matrix meter, and fully compatible with all the newest AF, AF-D, AF-I, AF-S, VR and G lenses. Also works with all AI (1977) and newer manual-focus lenses, and every lens back to 1959 with some mechanical modification.

It was the flagship single-lens reflex (SLR) camera marking the fifth of the "single-digit F-series models" developed since the Nikon F was launched in 1959 based on the basic philosophy, to offer more improved systems and basic functions, in addition to a camera robust enough for professional use.
