Dec 24, 2017 · My agency issued the 96D for years and I carried one for 10 years - on and off duty. Hated the long trigger pull. I heard many stories of broken slides, frames, and saw broken trigger return springs. We used 155 gr Remington ammo traveling 1200fps. We jokingly called it .40 magnum. All springs in mine were replaced at least twice.

Mar 23, 2012 · Converted my 96D to a 96FS. Required a new slide, sear, sear spring, hammer, and hammer release lever. Bought a new sear pin (didn't need it) but was able to use the old one. only a couple bucks so no big deal. Could only find a slide for a 92FS which required disassembly and machining of recessed area around finring pin hole to accept the 40cal.

Although more and more LE agencies have switched to the 40 caliber, Glock knocked Beretta out of the running with the G22 and G23 models. Mar 12, 2010 · First, Beretta had to fix the magazines four times before the base plates stopped popping off for no reason, throwing 14 rounds and all the mag parts everywhere. To be fair, that issue is no longer an issue but it still doesn't give us confidence in the pistol. Second, when firing over extended periods, small polymer shavings end up on our hands.

Feb 2, 2025 · Beretta 92D (9mm) and 96D (.40 S&W) are DAO. The 3rd Gen S&W autos had really smooth DA triggers. What I like about DAO pistols is dryfire practice is the same as live five practice. The trigger pull is exactly the same, and doesn't require any other manipulations or gadgets to reset the trigger between shots.
