AWD vs FWD in a minivan - Maintenance/Repairs - Car Talk …
Jun 29, 2008 · I am wanting to know how much better the traction will be in a minivan for fwd vs. awd. I have always preferred to get an awd car. But I need a minivan and Toyota is the only company with an awd minivan. The issue is that it only comes with their top of the line model. A $12,000+ difference between their baseline. So is it that much better

Jan 11, 2023 · We want cargo space and AWD. We’re debating several options. Here’s how I see it. 2020 Dodge Grand Caravan - cheap but reliable. No AWD. Has the cargo space. 2021 Chrysler Pacifica - nicer, more expensive, possibly less reliable. Has AWD and good cargo space. Getting the AWD version would probably be over budget.
Pros and Cons of AWD in a minivan? : r/cars - Reddit
AWD is generally less fuel efficient, and if it's retrofitted onto a vehicle that wasn't originally designed for it, then there might be some reduction in cabin or cargo space (e.g. the AWD version of the Audi A3 has 2 cubic feet less trunk space than the FWD version of the A3 because the trunk floor needed to be raised a couple of inches to make room for the driveshaft).
Is AWD for a Minivan really necessary? : r/Cartalk - Reddit
Dec 3, 2019 · Of course, you can add snow tires to your AWD van as well.. but for some reason a lot of folks with AWD never do. BTW, with tires mounted on an extra set of wheels you always have full size spares at home, and you'll get 6 summers out of the stock tires rather than 3 years, so the wheels are really the only extra expense and they're remarkably ...
Any experience with AWD minivans in mud season? : r/vermont
Feb 7, 2023 · I'm searching for a new family car to replace a mid-sized SUV, and one family member is making a strong pitch for a minivan instead of another SUV. I see the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica have all-wheel-drive, but I'm still worried about the low ground clearance during mud season. How big a factor is ground clearance versus AWD?
want a minivan that can tow and handle mild-offroad
Jan 19, 2021 · Unfortunately there isn’t an AWD minivan with 5,000lb towing capacity. You’re looking at a full-size SUV, Sequoia, Tahoe, Suburban, Expedition. You may be able to find an early to mid 2000’s GM passenger van with AWD that had a conversion package.
Looking for the best Hybrid AWD Minivan for a young family
Oct 29, 2021 · And 2nd massive congratulations on deciding on a minivan. By far the best choice. We have twins, and a singleton, so 3 as well. We live in GA so AWD not an issue so the Pacifica wins as plug in hybrid is amazing, as it’s the interior in Pinnacle trim. The entertainment system is useless however in anything but playing videos.
I’ve accepted that I’m not cool. Help me find a minivan.
Not a Minivan, but the Ford Flex Ecoboost shares a drivetrain with the ford taurus SHO, and is an absolute family beast on the road. With a 0-60 under 6 seconds. Or if you want something so painfully uncool that it's cool, look into the Volvo V70r turbo wagon.
PNW parents, do I need AWD? : r/minivan - Reddit
Jul 16, 2021 · FWD is fine fir most camping roads unless you’re really getting out there where you’ll need a suspension lift as much as AWD. I haven’t had any problems on snow with my FWD minivan either so far. I’m not hitting logging roads in the winter though, just snow parks and ski lifts. Minivan for camping is definitely the way to go!
any good, small 4wd / awd vans? : r/vandwellers - Reddit
Nov 1, 2022 · Your only option for “bigger than a minivan” would be a low-roof, 130” wheelbase Ford Transit AWD. Nobody stocks the 130” it seems, and they already closed the order banks for 2023. You could possibly find a used 130” Transit, then you could convert it to 4x4 at QuadVan.
