Oct 13, 2012 · As such, the Rueful Axe isn't even a screw for the player. Your avatar in the game gets a neat axe. Your avatar is fine. You the Player are the one getting screwed over. You do not get an achievement. Clavicus isn't targeting your character for the big screw - Clavicus is targeting you, the player. And the axe lives up to it's name. Rueful.

The Rueful Axe should still be hanging on the Weapon Plaque for you to take and it will no longer be a Quest Item; you will also have in your inventory the Masque of Clavicus Vile. If this is so, then congratulations, you've just tricked a Daedra Lord that usually tricks you. As a final note, I haven't found any bugs occurring from this yet.

The Masque if you're going for achievements (the Rueful Axe doesn't count for Oblivion Walker). If you're not, then it doesn't matter which you go for as they are both useless as gear, even if you get them early, and are suitable only for putting on a mannequin or weapon plaque.

Jan 3, 2022 · I managed to get both the Rueful Axe and the Masque of Clavicus Vile without advancing the main story quest. Normally you need to wake the Dragons and get Breezehome (which also requires advancing the main story), but it can be done without these things. First, I used Hendraheim, from the CC, as a substitute for Breezehome.

Jul 19, 2018 · There's a way easier way to do this simply take the original roofful ax home and place it on your wall now go into cheat room and take a copy of the roofull ax out of the chest labeled all weapons now take the copy back to clavicus he will accept it as the real thing you will then have both the original ax and the mask the cheap room ax will not kill Barnabas and most collector slots will not ...

Feb 19, 2021 · The axe is hot garbage. Swings slower than any other weapon in the game, and has a worthless enchantment. The mask is by far the better choice. Oh, and the axe doesn't count towards the Oblivion Walker achievement for collecting 15 Daedric artifacts.

ESO on YouTube did a video about it. You cannot get the Oblivion Walker achievement if you kill Barbas. Also if you look at the actual number of how long it takes to swing the Rueful Axe vs how much damage it does it actually has one of the lowest DPS in the game. Literally the wooden sword is better than the Rueful Axe.

Dec 6, 2021 · but the Axe seems really sub par. If you want a daedric two-handed weapon, Volendrung is just straight up better than the Axe. That's on purpose. Clavicus Vile's whole shtick is screwing you over while still sticking to the letter of your agreement. The vampires wished for an end to their vampirism, and you killed them.

Feb 2, 2023 · Apparently if you whirlwind sprint or slow time and escape the cave as Clavicus shows up, you can put the axe away, go back and then spare Barbas and get the Mask. Don’t worry too much, you can’t get the Daedric artifact achievement without the Mask.
