Dec 18, 2019 · This file format is specific. I've checked on wikipedia, and it seems that in order to open this file format, you need a software that support this format. As far as i've found, the Photos app doesn't support this format.

Oct 23, 2018 · I need to open .webp files with the Photos app but it doesn't show up in the "open with" context menu and I can't find the .exe file. I know that the Photos app can read it because renaming the extension works. This shouldn't be hard to do but I can't find a way to do it.

Pretty sure it does (please forgive the meme, this was the only .webp file that I had) I can open .webp in Windows Photos, it's just when you double click they open in MS Edge

Sep 2, 2023 · WEBP is an image file. It works the same way as other image files, like PNG or JPEG. Once the file is downloaded to your computer it is safe, if the file is deleted from the source, your downloaded copy will not be changed and/or deleted.

It's been years now and you still can't open the ever-present .webp images with the Photos app (not to be confused with the old Photo Viewer). Countless people have made posts about it, and there is no solution. If you try to open a .webp, it doesn't know what to open it with; so it tells you to choose a program from the dropdown window.

Aug 19, 2024 · Right-click and save the image as WebP. Open the saved WebP file in Microsoft Paint. Choose "Save As" and select JPEG. Alternatively, install a browser extension like "Save Image As Type" for direct JPEG saving, or use an online converter to change WebP to JPEG after saving. Please let me know if this works for you.
