The Enid Downtown Historic District is located in Enid, Oklahoma and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2007. In 2019 the district was expanded from 7 blocks to 21. [2]

Having established itself as regional trade center and rail hub by 1907 statehood, the town had grown to a population of 10,087, the fourth largest in Oklahoma. Enid encompassed beautiful parks, many wholesale houses, an electric trolley system, and “over 100 automobiles.”

Enid (/ ˈiːnɪd / EE-nid) is the ninth-largest city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It is the county seat of Garfield County. As of the 2020 census, the population was 51,308. Enid was founded during the opening of the Cherokee Outlet in the Land Run of 1893, and is named after Enid, a character in Alfred, Lord Tennyson 's Idylls of the King.

Enid was the name first given to the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway's (CRI&P) station, located three miles north of the present town of Enid. There are several versions of the origin of the town's name, but the most plausible attributes it to M. A. Low, a CRI&P official.

Aug 27, 2024 · I loved growing up in my hometown of Enid, Oklahoma. There are dozens of memories trapped in my mind that occurred in the 70's and early 80's. This is a list of the things I remember and miss the most from those good old days.

Feb 12, 2015 · Schiller Hall (The Old Opera House) “Enid had no opera house, but along in the late nineties (1890’s), a scheme was broached to build “Schiller Hall”, now known as the old opera house, on the East Broadway.
