RNZAF Base Ohakea is an operational base of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Opened in 1939, it is located near Bulls, 25 km north-west of Palmerston North in the Manawatū. It is also used as an alternate airport for civilian aircraft. The base's motto is Defensio per vires (Latin for defence through strength). [1]

Built in 1938, RNZAF Station Ohakea was a major base during WWII. Originally intended as a bomber base, its first role was to train observers, air gunners and new recruits. Retitled RNZAF Base Ohakea in 1965, it was the home of the RNZAF strike wing which consisted of the Canberra bombers of No.75 Squadron.

Ohakea is the Royal New Zealand Air Force's largest airbase, and generates the majority of air traffic within the Manawatu area. Ohakea houses the Air Force's pilot training capability, proving for a busy circuit; in addition to the Air Force's rotary wing transport force.

Base Ohakea was built between 1937-1939 and covers an area of 320 hectares. The base has around 1000 personnel, both military and civilian, and several squadrons call Ohakea home. For more information on Ohakea Base.

RNZAF Ohakea (NZOH/OHA) is one of the primary airbases for the Royal New Zealand Air Force. It is not traditionally used by civilian aircraft, however it is equipped with two long runways and ILS approaches which makes it a suitable large-aircraft-alternate for Cross the Ditch events.
