The M809 Series 5-ton 6x6 truck was a family of heavy tactical trucks built for the United States Armed Forces. The basic cargo version was designed to transport a 5-ton (4,500 kg), 14 ft (4.3 m) long load over all terrain in all weather.

Aug 1, 2019 · M818 is a good first truck. They are simple mechanically but, 5 ton parts are heavy. I like the power steering and the larger brakes of the M809 series trucks are better than the M35A2 in my opinion even though they are both air over hydraulic.

The M818 is the tractor version of the AM General-built M809-series of 5-ton tactical trucks; it has a fifth wheel which is used to haul adaptable semitrailers with loads up to 37,500 pounds cross country and 55,000 pound highway.

The M52/M818 tractor trucks were used to tow semi-trailers up to 37,500lbs with 15,000lbs on their fifth wheel. They can tow up to 55,000lbs with 25,000lbs on improved roads. The M818 can normally tow 12-ton 2 axle trailer.
