Welcome to Karl Vilips' personal Golfing Scrapbook. Back in 2008 when I first decided to chronicle my son's golf, this was originally intended as a means of keeping friends and family updated with his golf.

7 Iron-PW: Mizuno JPX 800 Pro with Fujikara Orochi (Senior Flex) shafts, custom fitted to Karl's size and swing speed using Mizuno's new DNA Shaft Optimiser. Quick Facts about Karl; Karl is currently 18 years old; Won the US Kids World Junior Championships at Ages 7 & 9, and the Callaway Junior World Championships (since renamed the IMG Junior Worlds) at ages 10 and 12. Karl's Men's Handicap each year has been as follows; Age 7: No Handicap yet. Age 8 1/2: 26.0 (original handicap at 8 Years & 4 months)

We lived in Sydney last year and despite being only 8 years of age and being supposedly eligible to play in the "9-Hole" tournaments where the players are given handicaps based on the "Callaway handicap system" and where the kids play off shorter Tees, Karl was not allowed to play in that format due to it being deemed "Unfair to the other ...

Hopefully, Australian Junior golf administrators will realize the need to add lower age divisions such as Under 12 to their 18-hole junior tournaments to make the transition from 9-hole golf to 18-hole golf easier for the kids in the 10-12 age group. But hey, what would I know, I'm just a parent of a junior golfer and we don't know anything. 

On top of that, Karl will play 9 holes most evenings after his hour of practice and also play in the club weekend competitons. In the weeks leading up to the Worlds, Karl will spend an 30-minutes early in the morning on the range, then an hour on his short game, followed by a practice round on whichever course he'll be playing to get used to ...
