The nearby coastal town of Kep makes a great day trip from Kampot. Buses run back and forth for $3, but you can also rent a motorbike in Kampot and ride down on your own or take the daily crab shuttle, a scenic 2.5-hour boat trip that connects the two towns.

The Kep listed above is actually a bus between Kep and the Kampot Tourist Port and not a boat or ship or ferry. It leaves Kep an hour before the ship departs from Kampot, and passengers arriving from the Islands to Kampot can get the bus from the Port to Kep.
