Feb 15, 2022 · In Necropolis (3rd Gaunt's Ghosts book) we get a good overview of a hive city not on a hive world. As you describe, there are plenty of people with normal jobs. We obviously have Necromunda, but most of the stories are about the very low in the underhive, or the very high up. We do get a few bits of lore about those in the middle though.

Its urban centers and hab blocks were much more spread out over a wider area, it seemed more of a large city state with a few 'hive' like qualities to me. It was also a genuine 'economy' in that its main purpose was indeed to produce materials and not just be a massive people nest.

The latter two I have ebooks for and a quick search for "Hive" only turned up the initial warhammer crime opening where it describes the city as a collection of hives, and a mention of an administratum hive within the city. I don't remember a part where it was explained that the city wasn't a hive and that there were differences.
