Haplogroup G-FGC7535, also known as Haplogroup G2a1 (and formerly G-L293), [1] is a Y-chromosome haplogroup. It is an immediate descendant of G2a (G-P15), which is a primary branch of haplogroup G2 (P287). G2a1 has an extremely low frequency in almost all populations except parts of the Caucasus Mountains.

The Han locales with single G samples were Liaoning in the northeast with one G2b (M377) man, Henan in the east central area with one G2a1 (P16) and Henan again with one G2a (P15) man not M286 or P16.

The frequency is higher in southern Europe, amounting to approximately 8-10% of the population in Spain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey.

Haplogroup G2a (G-P15) has been identified in Neolithic human remains in Europe dating between 5000 and 3000 BC. These Neolithic Europeans were descendants of Neolithic farmers from Anatolia, among some of the earliest peoples in the world to practice agriculture.

In summary, we have characterized 15 new hgG SNPs that had been previously reported but not phylogenetically defined. Ten of the new Y-SNPs are phylogenetically indistinguishable from G-M201, one is equivalent to G2a-P15 but four create new, separate hg G sub-haplogroups.
