Jul 1, 2011 · Recently bought a new hp laptop but after a few days i realize i would need to use the Fn key just to be able to use my F1-12 keys, originally pressing those keys would change brightness etc. Would anybody know how to switch this?

How can I switch the top row of keys so that I get "standard" F1-F12 without needing the Fn key which I can then use if I want access to the "Special functions" of these keys?

For example, pressing f1 opens a help window. Alternately, pressing both the fn + f1 keys puts the computer to sleep as printed on the key.

To switch back from standard function to multimedia, press the fn+esc keys simultaneously again. Pressing the fn key simultaneously with an f1 to f11 key, performs the standard function. Press fn+fx during system startup to use the function keys to access and utilize the BIOS functions (such as Boot Menu or System Recovery).

Apr 19, 2024 · I have tried to open BIOS but i cant find any system config and i dont want to accidentally ruin my new laptop/ i couldnt find any fn lock to use the function keys without clicking on fn. i tried to disable but i am unable to do so. it is very annoying to click on fn + f3 to increase brightness instead of direct increasing by clicking on f3.
