First off the E34 has Dinan chip, Dinan stage 3 suspension (Bilstein all around) and Supersprint Exhaust. The E39 has Dinan software, strut braces front and rear, UUC clutch +light weight flywheel, Tubi exhaust amongst some other things.

BMW introduced their E34 5 Series based M5 in 1989. The E34 M5 was powered by BMW's S38 3.5L inline 6 engine, but starting in 1992, European models received a larger, more powerful version of the S38.

Nov 30, 2014 · 540/530: m60 is interchangeable with most e32,e38, e39 and so on even the s6x is interchangeable but like most will require some wiring and tuning. 535: M30 is interchangeable with e23,e24,e28,e32. If you want turbo the e23 and e32 745 turbo kit will work on the cheap.

Jun 12, 2015 · I have recently installed 740 E32 rear trailing arms, bolted straight in. Be aware that rear track width is wider by about 9mm per side to allow for the vented rear discs. You will need matching E32 calipers and discs.
