The site of the house has been a seat of the Cholmondeley family since the 12th century. The present house replaced a timber-framed hall nearby.

We welcome group visits to Cholmondeley Castle Gardens. These can include a guided tour and lunch. Please fill out Group Booking Form 2025 to book in. Tickets can be bought on the gate or in advance (tickets bought in advance are cheaper than on the gate)however, due to high demand, tickets for events only guaranteed if bought in advance.

The Beautiful romantic gothic style castle at Cholmondeley proudly overlooks 50 acres of stunning ornamental gardens and 670 acres of historic parkland. The present day castle was built between 1801 and 1804 with the addition of the turrets completing the work in 1817.

PRINCIPAL BUILDING Cholmondeley Castle (listed grade II*) is a crenellated sandstone gothick building. It stands on a low hill above its level park, with panoramic views to the east. Designed by the fourth Earl working with the local architect William Turner of Whitchurch, it was built between 1801 and 1804.
