Feb 13, 2023 · Carmax buys a lot of their inventory from auctions. For many auction cars, there is a reason they are there. A dealer selling a trade in probably owns the vehicle on better terms and looked the car over thoroughly because they owned it.

Feb 3, 2021 · Carmax prices vehicles based on an algorithm... when you have a 1 year old car with very low miles the “add” for the mileage often exceeds the actual market value. The computer doesn’t know this and spits a window sticker out... and someone in the $12 an hour variety sticks it …

Sep 5, 2017 · Carmax vs dealerships is a classic money vs time tradeoff. Carmax is transparent. Before you even visit, you know what the cost is as well as what their inventory and warranty is... Dealers aren't transparent. You may, or may not, be able to negotiate a lower price for a similar car. But it will cost you time.

Apr 8, 2023 · I see buying from Carvana/Carmax like buying a preowned phone from Bestbuy/Walmart, while dealerships and private sellers are like random sellers on eBay. Apr 8, 2024 · Carmax has the better reputation but they are wildly more expensive (at least in my area) than most dealers. Jul 5, 2022 · I bought 2 cars from Carmax, and though they may seem more expensive than a regular dealer, remember that the dealer is going to try to add all kinds of additional fees to the price of the car, so then it's going to end up being just as expensive as Carmax, and with Carmax there is zero pressure when buying the car, and you have up to 30 days ...
