Sep 28, 2020 · Hi there- I haven't been on the site for years now. First thought I had bulbar ALS in 2010 & 2011, but Sunnybrook hospital insisted that I would be on my death bed if I had it. Two years ago I was diagnosed with probable ALS and now almost 10 years from the onset I'm diagnosed with definite ALS. I'm 67, am a widow and I have 2 sons.

Jan 28, 2024 · MJR, I am a patient of ALS (PALS) with Bulbar-onset ALS. I was diagnosed in August 2023. My first symptoms showed up in January 2023. I do not think I’ve had any impacts on mental capacity, memory, etc. (I’m 57 years old.) My dexterity and general muscle control has not demished really.

Nov 9, 2022 · "Bulbar onset" just means ALS where the first major set of muscles whose nerves can no longer control them are in the bulbar region -- where chewing, swallowing, and speech happen. "Bulbar ALS" is not really a useful term. Most PALS have problems with bulbar function sooner or later, likewise their limbs and core.

Apr 17, 2010 · Sounds like diabeties to me. Prior to my diagnosed of diabeties I had dizziness, numbness, tingling and excessive thrist and sicking in my mouth because of the thrist. These symptoms all became normal when I started on meds for diabeties. Now with Bulbar ALs I have an excess of saliva, no numbness or tingling or dizziness.

Oct 26, 2024 · "Bulbar ALS" could mean bulbar features or bulbar onset, but if speech were affected by MND, ultimately, all can hear the difference. I don't know where you've been seen, but I would certainly ask for a referral to an<other> academic neuromuscular center.

Jun 20, 2021 · I saw on the sticky that twitches without weakness or meaningless but I guess my question is with bulbar onset can or do the twitches start first in the tongues. Meaning will I eventually develop weakness or does weakness come first. I appreciate anyone who can help me with this or give me tour thoughts on if this sounds like early onset bulbar ALS

May 24, 2020 · ALS generally has 3 main ‘starting’ points in the body, so some of the anticipatory planning will revolve around what parts of the body are most likely, or obviously failing first. These are – bulbar onset that starts with speech and swallowing, arm and leg onset.

Dec 6, 2020 · Newbie here. My 89 yr old mother was diagnosed with Bulbar ALS about 3 weeks ago. We have no history of this disease in our family. Her symptoms made themselves known quite abruptly, and progressed from barely noticeable to significant in a very short time. She has difficulty talking and swallowing, and suffers from severe shortness of breath.
