I have a 1998 BMW 7401. Prior to yesterday, every so often it appeared as though the fan would stop working to the A/C. Would just be riding and the fan would stop- however, you could feel that there was cold air coming out of the vent. Then it would usually come on, or we would have to restart the car to get it blowing again.

The key sends a signal to the EWS (immobilizer) which is a theft deterrent control unit. The first thing to try is another key. If you do not have another key to try the best thing to do is to use the dealer or a shop with a GT1 BMW tester as the status of the key can be read out with the tester to see if the key is transmitting.
