The axillary lymphatic system is a collection of lymph nodes found in the axillary region of the upper limb. The axillary region is commonly referred to as the ‘armpit’. The axillary lymph nodes are responsible for draining lymph from the breasts and surrounding areas, including the neck, the upper arms, and the underarm area. The deep lymphatic vessels of the upper limb follow the major deep veins and terminate in the humeral axillary lymph nodes. The axillary lymph nodes receive lymph from the upper limb, shoulder, and thoracic and abdominal walls.
