Apr 18, 2023 · I am going to buy a ThinkPad E14 Gen 4, but I am confused in choosing the display. The one with 100% sRGB (300 nits IPS) is about 70$ more expensive than the 45% NTSC (300 nits IPS) panel. I am currently at the limit of my budget but if the benefits are high then I can consider upgrading. I will use it for coding, light gaming and some movies etc.

NTSC is a gamut for television broadcasts and is not suitable for photography as its red, green and blue values differ from those used in digital cameras.

Nov 4, 2021 · 72% ntsc already is a stretch and is on the border of being a usable screen and a very bad screen, 45% ntsc is more like they need to add a screen but don't really want to, so they just lift along on that most people do not know how terrible those screens are.

May 21, 2023 · Well, what they mean is that if a color is in the 45% NTSC gamut of these displays, it will be displayed fairly accurately. But if it’s outside of this gamut, it will have to display a color that is not an accurate shade since it can’t represent it. Technically different measurements, but they often go hand in hand.

Sep 1, 2022 · Avoid, avoid, avoid. 72% NTSC coverage, the next-best standard, is nearly full sRGD coverage. Apart from HDR stuff, that is the colour space content is designed for. So that's "the way it's meant to be". With 45% NTSC coverage, colours will look washed out by comparison, both to better screens and to real life.
