The MP5SD 9x19mm integrally suppressed submachine gun was developed in response to the special requirements of special operations forces. The MP5SD has an integral silencer which still has the same length and general shape as an unsilenced submachine gun.

Where other submachine guns have to use special subsonic ammunition for silenced use, the MP5 SD fires supersonic ammunition in the subsonic range (<340 m/s). It is also one of the most precise silenced submachine guns in its class.

The MP5SD2 is the second SD series variant, and features a built-in suppressor, a fixed stock, and an air-cooling carbined barrel, allowing for a high rate of fire. The weapon uses 9 x 19mm rounds in a 30-round box magazine.

The MP5SD4 lacked a stock but instituted a burst-fire function. The MP5SD5 was similar only given a full solid stock.
