Mar 13, 2023 · With profile 7, it can be FEL or MEL. The extra picture data in FEL makes the video 12bit vs 10bit. No TV"s support 12bit currently, so it is debatable as to how much...if any difference it makes.

Mar 8, 2024 · Dolby Vision (including FEL) is working in CE-NG 20.5+/21+ on any DV licensed devices including those with s905x2, s922x, s905x4 SOCs. So far confirmed working on: DV FEL also confirmed on licensed s905x2 (J/K variants), s905x3 (J/K) & A311D (J/K). Boxes with these SOCs are much less likely to allow booting CE without modification/hacks.

These movies will not playback properly on an Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 or Zidoo Z9X in Dolby Vision mode (disabling Dolby Vision will force fallback to HDR10 which fixes the issues).

Mar 6, 2025 · In order to get the FEL to play you have to be using Coreelec (which is good as it boots instead of Android) and playback with supported rips; they seem to work fine via Kodi playback and also works w/ the Plex plug in Plex 4 Kodi. MKVs work perfectly for this if they are ripped w/ the DV layer intact (MakeMKV does this by default).

There is also the option where the FEL can be 4000 nits while the base layer is only 1000 nits. In our case, the base and FEL are both the max nit value.

This file is made up of a static greyscale HDR10 layer (from the excellent Mehanik HDR test patterns) with a FEL layer showing the animated Universal logo, credits and the start of Mortal Engines.
