Dec 3, 2005 · 67-72 trucks have rear ends that are 1.5 inch wider overall than the 63-66 rear ends, and the 73-87 trucks used a rear end that is 3 inches wider overall (1.5 in wider on each end). It might be possible to use one of these rear ends, but your tire clearance to the inside of the fender would decrease.

I myself own a '66 C20 Custom Camper that came from the factory with a 327 and a first generation TH400, power assisted steering & power brakes but now has a late model 350 & TH700R4.

Threw all new bearings at it, had the rotors turned and threw it together. I had to use the 71 upper ball joints as the taper is different, the lowers were same.

Apr 29, 2005 · Finally chiming in here, 6 years late - the beefier the better as far as sway bars & old trucks are concerned. I installed the factory sway bar from the 1989 3/4 ton Suburban donor front end. Compared to the factory 7/8" that came on my '66 as part of the "Custom Camper" package, the 1989 counter part was 1-1/4" in diameter.
