Another option would be a Debt Management Plan, not to be confused with debt settlement programs or debt relief programs. Debt Management Plans are administered by non-profit NFCC affiliated Credit Counseling Organizations. They work basically the same as hardship programs but they contact your creditors for you.

Dec 22, 2022 · The debt relief program was able to negotiate with all my credit card companies except Khols and Target. I paid Khols off and left Target unpaid for 2 years. Target was the only one that had a lawyer serve me paperwork.

The first two were exactly the same procedure: they guarantee they can reduce the amount to 40%, but they charge a 25% fee on top. I stop making payments, go to collections and pay them to settle. I am assuming Freedom will be the same deal.
