California health officials have recently reported the first known case of clade I mpox to be detected in the U.S.

The World Health Organization says mpox cases in the region of Congo where a new and more infectious variant was first detected appear to be “plateauing,” even as the virus continues to increase in other regions of the country,

The patient was traveling from East Africa, where the mpox disease is endemic. The CDC says the strain does not present a high risk to the general population.
