The Triangle is likely to see snow and ice as part of a winter storm that is expected to reach the area Friday afternoon. A winter storm warning, issued by the National Weather Service in Raleigh, is in effect from 1 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday.

In north Alabama, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office has issued a travel advisory due to ice-coated bridges and roads. Many roads in the country are unsafe for travel, officials said, and “we strongly advise against venturing onto the roads today.”

North Carolinians should pay close attention to their local weather forecast, make sure they are prepared with what they need at home before Friday afternoon, and stay home if possible as ice on the roadways will likely create dangerous driving conditions.
