The Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe are the country's best-selling plug-in hybrids—but they shouldn't be plugged in until a fix is found.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said owners of 154,000 Jeep plug-in hybrid electric SUVs should park outside and away from buildings or other vehicles until they get recall repairs completed.

The progressive plug-in hybrid SUVs from Stellantis have been recalled after multiple vehicle fires have been reported.

While Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis says a repair is nearly ready for the problem, it is currently unsafe to charge the plug-in SUVs until that repair is made available. Jeep is aware of 13 fires as a result of the problem and two injuries were reported as a result.

Stellantis is recalling more than 154,000 examples of its plug-in-hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs over a potential fire risk.

Automaker Stellantis on Monday recalled 154,032 Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids built in recent years after discovering a significant fire risk.

Jeep's owner, Stellantis, has recalled about 194,000 plug-in hybrid SUVs from the brand due to a risk of fire. The recall impacts specific Jeep Wrangler 4xe models from 2020 to 2024 and some Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs from 2022 to 2024 — the company estimates about five percent of the vehicles will have the defect.
