Officers responded to a 911 call at 6:47 a.m. after a report that a man had entered a home and pistol-whipped two adults.

Both officers believed the suspect was firing at them, and fired back in response. However, authorities later learned the suspect was unarmed.

Two Des Moines police officers who fired shots at and killed a suspect in January were justified in their actions, according to the Polk County Attorney's Office.
