The BJP is set to form the government after 27 years and remove the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from power in the capital.

In the keenly contested Assembly polls in Delhi, there was a difference of only two per cent between the vote shares of the BJP and AAP. The saffron party has stormed to power in the national capital by winning 48 of the 70 seats restricting AAP to 22 seats.

In Delhi, 12 seats are reserved for candidates belonging to SC communities. In the 2020 Assembly elections, all these seats were won by AAP. But this time, BJP has wrested four – 3 of them have over 25% Dalit population – of these 12 reserved seats.

The BJP won 48 of the 70 seats in the capital district, well ahead of the 22 for the Aam Aadmi Party of Arvind Kejriwal, a fierce critic of Modi, Election Commission data showed.
