Washington — The U.S. Senate on Tuesday confirmed Doug Collins as secretary of veterans affairs, putting the former congressman and Iraq War veteran at the helm of a department that provides crucial care to America's veterans.

Former Rep. Doug Collins will have to address matters such as veteran homelessness, mental healthcare, and whether to privatize the Department of Veterans Affairs if confirmed as its secretary, several veteran-adjacent leaders said.

WASHINGTON — By a wide margin, U.S. Representative for Georgia Doug Collins was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the next United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Collins was nominated by President Donald Trump to be the VA Secretary on Nov. 14, 2024.
