At least 9 people dead as powerful winter storms wreak havoc across the US, with Kentucky bearing the brunt. Heavy rainfall led to devastating floods, leaving thousands without power and prompting mass rescues.

At least 14 people are dead after a winter storm packing severe weather struck the South and moved through the East over the weekend. Eleven of those victims were killed in Kentucky as heavy rains pummeled the region, trapping cars, sweeping vehicles off roadways and causing vehicle accidents.

Floods, mudslides and a series of winter storms are wreaking havoc across the country, killing several in Kentucky.
