Marking a first, Python has displaced Java to take the number two ranking in the November 2020 edition of the Tiobe Index of programming language popularity. C held on to the top spot.

Programming languages: Python could soon overtake C and Java as most popular Python is battling for pole position, but Rust and TypeScript have made notable gains in popularity over the past year.

If Python does overtake Java, it would mark the first time since Tiobe began its programming language popularity index in 2001 that Java would be outside the top two spots.
