Real Madrid guaranteed their place in the Champions League knockout playoff round with a thumping 5-1 win over RB Salzburg at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 15-time winners and current holders had surprisingly lost three of their opening six matches to sit surprisingly close to the league phase's dreaded bottom eight.

Defending champions Real Madrid beat RB Salzburg 5-1 on Matchday 7 in the league stage of the UEFA Champions League. The match, played at Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, saw Rodrygo strike twice in the first half to put Real two goals to the good. Vinicius Junior scored a brace on either side of a Kylian Mbappe goal in the second period.
