Apple has reportedly scrapped a project to create new augmented reality glasses that would fit closely within the rest of its device ecosystem. The team working on the project was informed of the decision in the last week of January, according to sources familiar with the decision and reported by Bloomberg.

The glasses project, codenamed N107, was never made public, but Bloomberg reports that the plan was to build tech-equipped glasses that looked like any other pair but offered augmented reality features that could display information visible only to the person wearing the frames.

Though this project has been axed, Apple reportedly still plans to bring a standalone set of AR glasses to market 'someday.'

In November, the same outlet reported that Apple had launched the project under the codename "Atlas," with the goal to build a pair of advanced, AR smart glasses, perhaps in order to compete with Meta's promising "Orion" prototype.

This project has reportedly been cancelled, after internal testing established that the device would not be market worthy.
