Learn how to create, view, and edit GEDCOM files containing family trees using a free software or a free online tool in Windows 11/10.

These files work in conjunction with the php-gedcom library. They add an SQLite based cache to the GEDCOM file which will allow faster access to objects after the cache is populated.

The GEDCOM format is specified in a grammar file (gedcom-5.5.grammar). Gedcom.pm parses the grammar which is then used to validate and allow manipulation of the GEDCOM file.

Given a file in GEDCOM format, Sparrowhawk will create a set of linked HTML documents containing the genealogical information contained in the file.
