A man died after suffering an apparent medical emergency inside the Norfolk City Jail Monday morning, according to the city’s sheriff’s office.

Around 7 a.m., deputies responded to a medical emergency involving an inmate who appeared to collapse in his cell, according to a release from the Norfolk Sheriff's Office. Officials then called for medical staff to assist and began first aid efforts.
