COLUMBUS, Ohio — The betting line for Ohio State vs. Notre Dame football in the National Championship game opened with the Buckeyes favored by about 10 points. It has since dropped by two points, suggesting the matchup in Atlanta on Monday could be closer that initially expected.

Most coaches said they wouldn’t be surprised if the Irish pull off the upset against the Buckeyes for the CFP championship.

Doesn't matter where -- around Notre Dame Stadium, past the Grotto or Touchdown Jesus.  The point is, the former Irish athletic director who hired Marcus Freeman should be ripping off his shirt, pounding his chest and whooping at the top of his lungs.

Of all the unholy alliances, Michigan fans rooting for Notre Dame is one that violates every cardinal rule of college football.

The Irish could've been done after their loss to Northern Illinois. Instead, they're in the national championship game due to the will of Marcus Freeman and free-wheeling play of Riley Leonard.

Ohio State is fully capable of making Notre Dame pay for its mistakes, but it doesn’t force nearly as many turnovers and commits more on offense as well. The Buckeyes are tied for 54th in the FBS in takeaways (19) and rank 44th in turnover margin (plus-four), which bodes well for the Irish.
