Quietly and without much fanfare, Nvidia announced a new variant of the RTX 4070 graphics card. It is almost identical to the original version, minus the memory standard—GDDR6 instead of GDDR6X.

The new ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 Twin Edge with slightly slower GDDR6 memory is available at Newegg for $10 less than the GDDR6X model.

The only difference between the two GPUs is in the memory bandwidth department, as it's gone from GDDR6X 21Gb/s memory to GDDR6 20Gb/s modules, which reduces memory bandwidth from 504GB/s to 480GB/s.

Nvidia currently favours Micron's GDDR6X while AMD is sticking with GDDR6 for its latest graphics cards. Neither has indicated any plans to jump on Samsung's new GDDR6W technology.
