Microsoft recently announced the public preview of Azure SQL Database External REST Endpoint Integration – an ability to call a REST endpoint natively from Azure SQL Database.

SQL Server has supported backing up to Azure blob storage since a late release of SQL Server 2012. Still, it has always relied upon access keys or shared access signatures for authentication.
