Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church is already selling Proud Boys-style merchandise after winning the extremist group's trademark.

WASHINGTON (RNS) — A historic Black church whose Black Lives Matter sign was destroyed by members of the extremist group Proud Boys is now selling T-shirts using the group’s logo, after the congregation won the Proud Boys trademark as part of a yearslong legal dispute.

The Proud Boys will have to ask permission from a Black church in Washington, D.C. to use or sell anything with their logo or likeness.

A Black church that won a challenge against the Proud Boys hopes it spurs others to act. “We want to capitalize on this energy,'' said William Lamar.
