The NBA decided to change the All-Star game format this year with a four-team mini-tournament in which TNT’s Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O'Neal will have a draft and select three eight-man teams from the 24 All-Stars. The Rising Stars champion from Friday will be the fourth team.

While Booker was not named a starter, his teammate Kevin Durant was, giving the Suns at least one All-Star this season. Durant will join Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokić as the All-Star starters in the Western Conference.

Booker has now only made the All-Star Game four times in his 10 NBA seasons. He is averaging 25.5 points, 6.7 assists and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 44.4% from the floor and 34.1% from 3-point range in 41 games. The Suns' lowly 24-22 record made it difficult for them to have two All-Star selections.

Don’t be surprised to see the Suns rising as the second half of the regular season unfolds. They have all the pieces to be much better than what their current record indicates.

I believe Booker has a statistical case for an All-Star spot, but I’m not blind to the fact that this has been a down year for him. Has he stepped it up in January? Absolutely.
