From Buenos Aires to Mexico City, Latin Americans expressed closeness to the Argentine pope as he battles double pneumonia for the second week in a hospital room in Rome.

Pope Francis visited Juárez as part of a five-day journey into Mexico. He arrived at the Abraham Gonzalez International Airport in Juárez on Feb. 17, 2016, where he was greeted by about 1,500 young altar servers.

Pope Francis remained in critical condition Sunday and blood tests showed early kidney failure but he remains alert, responsive and attended mass, the Vatican said, as the 88-year-old pontiff battles pneumonia and a complex lung infection.

For the third time in a row, the pope was unable to publicly recite the Sunday Angelus prayer. However, he published it in the form of a letter, in which he speaks about his hospitalization and assures that he is "praying for peace.

Monday marks Pope Francis’ 10th day in the hospital, making this equal to the longest hospitalization of his papacy.

Pope Francis suffered an isolated coughing fit on Friday that resulted in him inhaling vomit, requiring non-invasive mechanical ventilation, the Vatican said in relaying a setback in his two-week long battle against double pneumonia.

Pope Francis, battling double pneumonia in hospital for two weeks, had an ”isolated breathing crisis” on Friday and received ”non-invasive mechanical ventilation” to help him breathe, the Vatican said.
