The veteran president of the Texas Senate and the new speaker of the House did not start out on the same page.
The Texas Senate Education Committee on Tuesday night voted to advance school voucher legislation for a full vote in the Senate after hours of public testimony largely focused on whether the proposal would live up to its promise of prioritizing low-income families and children with disabilities.
The state budget, school vouchers and a THC ban topped Patrick’s list. His other top goals include raising the property tax exemption for homeowners, improving electric and water infrastructure, and aiding the federal government with the deportation of people who are in the U.
Restrict THC, help with deportations, infuse religion in schools and provide property tax relief – these are among the Patrick priorities.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced his Senate priorities for the 89th legislative session. Of his 40 priority bills, the 25 he laid out in his announcement include school choice, investing in water supply,
"We're going to pass it out before next Wednesday and we're going to send it over there like a rocket ship next week," Patrick said.
Abbott’s appearance will come just a week after he joined other Republican governors around the nation at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
