The rape and murder of the 31-year-old female doctor in Kolkata, capital of the eastern state, set off a wave of protests by doctors demanding greater workplace safety for women and justice for their slain colleague, prompting India's Supreme Court to create a hospital safety task force.

Junior doctors in West Bengal on Tuesday resumed their strike across all medical colleges and hospitals 10days after they returned to emergency services, arguing that the state was yet to keep its promise of strengthening security and infrastructure in state-run hospitals.

The medics also sought improvements to healthcare infrastructure and an end to political interference in running hospitals in the state.

"The CBI's investigation is frustratingly slow. We've seen many cases where delays result in culprits going free. We are disappointed," said a statement released by the junior doctors on Tuesday.

The junior doctors went on to cease work after a medic was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
