Grand Canyon is joining the Mountain West by 2026 and spurning its previous commitment to the West Coast Conference, the university announced Friday. The move comes just months after GCU accepted an invitation from the WCC and announced it would be leaving the WAC in 2025.

Less than six months after Grand Canyon announced it would move to the West Coast Conference, the school is now set to go to the Mountain West.

The Mountain West is adding Grand Canyon University as a full non-football member in 2026, the conference announced Friday. It is the latest addition for the MWC as it rebuilds following the pending departure of five schools to the similarly rebuilding Pac-12 in 2026.
