New York City politicians are calling on Whoopi Goldberg to apologize for suggesting on air that a local bakery had declined to make “The View” co-host a batch of desserts for her birthday because of her political beliefs.

The culture wars have found their way to the dessert table. What was supposed to be a simple birthday treat devolved into the latest flashpoint after “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg implied that a New York bakery refused to take her order because of her liberal politics.

The flap started when Goldberg celebrated her 69th birthday on The View by sharing a tray of desserts, which she mentioned had taken some work to get.
