Democratic U.S. Rep. Andy Kim was elected Tuesday to the U.S. Senate, defeating Republican businessman Curtis Bashaw for the seat that opened when Bob Menendez resigned this year after his federal conviction on bribery charges.

Democratic Rep. Andy Kim won the U.S. Senate seat in New Jersey vacated by Bob Menendez, beating Republican Curtis Bashaw. Kim served in New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District. He won a lawsuit against New Jersey election commissioners in late March over a ballot design unique to the state.
